Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), met today with Norbert Reithofer, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, at BMW Group headquarters in Munich to announce the planned expansion of their existing cooperation initiated in December last year. The two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at long-term strategic collaboration in four fields: joint development of a fuel cell system, joint development of architecture and components for a future sports vehicle, collaboration on powertrain electrification and joint research and development on lightweight technologies.

"Future sports vehicle". I really really hope this means throwing a BMW N55 inline-six engine into a car with double-wishbones front and rear, under 3400 pounds, with a limited slip differential, and reviving the Supra. I don't think it'll be a small roadster, because Toyota will already have that with the 86 convertible, and BMW already has the Z4. There's been enthusiast interest in a new Supra for years, and there's a gap in Toyota's lineup for a mid-sized RWD two-door coupe, which was previously filled by the Lexus SC.

It was funny seeing the picture at the bottom of the press release, of Toyoda and Reithofer walking over the footbridge between the BMW Welt and the BMW museum, and saying, "Hey! I was there in 2010!"

Hmmmm, interesting.

If you really want to do something, you will make a way. If you really don't, you will make an excuse.

^ My thoughts exactly

God, Family, Country and the right to bare arms; That's what it's all about. Scion would be in there but Toyota chose to nix them.
