Anybody know how to apply tint?
Hey everybody!
I want to tint the windows on my Accord and was wondering if anybody knew how to apply the tint cleanly?
I have seen the cut pieces online for my car and was considering buying the kit to do it. But am affraid that I am going to mess it up. I have looked around and it looks like it would cost me around $200 to get them done.
But I don't have that type of money to put into it. I will probably end up getting it done professionally. But I figured I would see if anybody had a good experiance doing it on their own.

Re: Anybody know how to apply tint?
I have had pretty good luck installing walmart $10 tint if you want help. I decided not to do the $200 tint job if I had to take it all of to get inspected, so the $10 tint worked for me. 35% on the back and 50% up front

Re: Anybody know how to apply tint?
A buddy of mine had a glass shop, and I've done tint with him several times. He of course did 90% of the work while I watched and or heald stuff for him.
My biggest suggestion is tons of Windex/glass cleaner.
Steps 1. Clean the hell out of the window 2. Clean it again 3. Clean it again 4. if using precut tint, peal the backing off and soak it with glass cleaner 5. Soak the window with glass cleaner 6. place the tint and position corectly 7. use a squeege and start from the center working out all the air bubbles and the cleaner (don't be worried too much about a little cleaner under the tint, it dries out with out bubbles provided it's not much and there are no air bubbles in it) 8. DON"T TOUCH IT, DON"T ROLL THE WINDOW UP OR DOWN FOR HOURS/1 DAY AT LEAST!!!

Hmmm, that is good advice. I might take you up on that in the spring Adam.
I was thinking about buying the precut stuff on ebay...

Even if someone knew someone who would do it for me, that would be cool. Or knew of a good, cheap shop.

Re: Anybody know how to apply tint?
tint is something you are better off using a reliable person to have it done, should you go that route. I paid almost 300 clams for mine, and the edges are clean at all. There is a guy here on LI that one of our sponsors uses, hes quick and his work is top notch. I will be using him for my next ride.
Now, if you decide to do it yourself ... make sure you have plenty of new razors. Most places sell tint install kits. The kits should have a break off razor knife, squeegy, and a spray bottle. Make sure you have a fresh edge on the knife, cause i dull edge will not cut, rather then it will tear and make a clean edge jagged. When i used to install my own; back in the early 90s, i used a soapy solution rather then Windex. I used to clean with Fantastic ( removes all grease ) then follow that with Windex. Then spray the hell out of the glass on the inside, and the same with the tint while removing the backing on the film. Spray the tint so the squeegy doesnt drag on a dry surface and work for the center out like mentioned above. Take your time, and keep everything soaked until your done.
