Post Headunit suggestions
Because the volume up button on my Eclipse AVN5495 basically doesn't work anymore and my maps are out of date, I'd like to get a new headunit.

This is the type of stuff I'm interested in:

  • NOT EXPENSIVE (I'm thinking <$1,000 with any needed accessories - I will consider used/refurbed)
  • built in navigation (don't want to deal with discs)
  • built in hard drive for music that will record your CDs faster than in real time or USB for a flash drive (no small limits on folders and/or files per folder)
  • satellite
  • HD
  • double din
  • works with steering wheel controls

I don't know how impossible it is to find something that matches all of this, but something close would be good too....

If it matters, I have the following amp and sub, too: Rockford Fosgate P1S412 sub and Sony XM-1252GTR amp

Thanks for any help!

Eclipse avn726e

Has no map disc but I'm not sure if it has a hd for saving music.

Actually, I was looking at that one, but decided against Eclipse since they're getting out of the market.

I've actually been looking at quite a few of the Kenwoods, too. It's just so friggin difficult to pick one of these... I've just spent the last hour looking at different headunits and peoples reviews of them... it's amazing, you'll have people say that one particular unit has the worst sound/maps/customer support/functionality and other people will say it has the best sound/maps/customer support/functionality. I look at reviews for a lot of the electronics I buy and I don't think I've ever seen anything as polarizing as headunit reviews. :(

please please please stay away from Pioneer. I have had mine replace 2 times already under warranty.. and it's doing weird resets again.. but not often.

first time the touch screen stopped working, the second time the bluetooth quit and the sd slot was inop.

I do like it.. but the aggravation is has caused already and it's not even a year old.

I think it's an AVIC 700, but i'm not positive

my best suggestion is go to www.crutchfield.com you can input your car make, model, year and then they will show you what fits your car, then you can break it down by the type of head unit you want. i've used them often and they send manuals to show you exactly how to remove the old and install the new with the parts you need to fit your car... etc... any adapters you might need to fit in the dash properly and look factory. great place to do business!

Need a little more help. The Eclipse has been uninstalled, but we can't get the GPS receiver for it out. When it was installed, they stuck the receiver on the dash, just under the middle of the windshield. I can't remove it. I think I could probably get it out through the A pillar, but I have side air bags and would not prefer to go that route. Any other suggestions?

Nope, not yet... haven't had time to play with it. I think I'm probably going to have to take that A-pillar off though.....
